LaVerne Jones-Gore is a native Clevelander coming from the city’s Hough neighborhood. She’s the youngest of nine. Born to a steel mill worker and a nurse, Mrs. Gore is no stranger to hard work. Mrs. Gore was educated in the Cleveland Public Schools and after graduating from John Adams High School, she went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Economics, and Organizational Development from Pitzer College, one of the Claremont Colleges in California.
Her late husband Larry was a Marine Corps veteran, and an engineer with military defense contractor, Lockheed Martin, which afforded her and their sons the opportunity to live abroad, experiencing Europe, the Middle East, and Northern and Western Africa.
While simultaneously working, and raising a family, she continued her education earning Master’s degrees in Adult Education (M.Ed.) from Cleveland State University and in Public Health (M.P.H.) from Northeast Ohio Medical University.
She’s always maintained a home in Cleveland and has deep ties to the community which has provided so much for her family. Her vision encompasses the passion of experiences, and the triumph of Cleveland has to offer to our region, our country and the world. She understands that through the power of education and dedication you can achieve your dreams, even if you started from the humblest of means.
Laverne Gore is in a dynamic position to win.
Laverne actively adds value to her neighborhood. She has been a radio talk show host, community activist, and Executive Director of two civic organizations. At the Ohio Diversity Coalition, she organized both clothing and food drives in Cleveland’s public housing and has mentored young African American women for the Sarah J Harper Leadership Institute. Mrs. Gore has been active in the Republican Party, has run for local public office, and was the Republican nominee for Congress.
Gore has met with the President at the White House to discuss her beliefs, and they’ve discussed her ideas to restore everyone’s faith in Cleveland’s potential.
Laverne is sure that the right to life, traditional family values, and personal responsibility will create the foundation for Cleveland’s neighborhoods to thrive once more. She believes that strong communities require solid building blocks built of core American values.
Today, she can communicate messages of inclusion to all residents of Cleveland.

CLEVELAND'S FUTURE
Mrs. Gore’s vision for Cleveland is rooted in inclusive progress. She aims to strengthen education by integrating local institutions and literacy organizations to uplift youth through STEM and trade programs. Recognizing the evolving workforce, she calls for expanded support for seniors, formerly incarcerated individuals, and youth seeking alternatives to college. Her plan includes a shift toward blue-collar growth to rebuild Cleveland’s economic foundation. With compassion for the city’s elder residents, she also champions property tax reform and improved services, ensuring they can age in place with dignity.
